Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) FAQs

Each session has a very specific focus and desired outcomes for insomnia treatment. We will be applying effective CBT-I techniques to rebuild your innate sleep drive and realign your body’s natural circadian rhythms. You will actively engage in learning and practicing new sleep therapy skills, sleep habits, and behaviors, as well as adopting new ways of thinking to break the cycle of poor sleep.

Do I have to be off sleep medication to benefit from CBT-I?

Although CBT-I techniques do not involve medication, they can be effectively utilized alongside your current sleep medication. Many individuals choose to start insomnia treatment to learn strategies that complement their ongoing sleep therapy. If you decide to discontinue your medication during the treatment process, I will collaborate with you and your prescribing physician to support a gradual tapering of your dosage.

What if I’m working with a Psychotherapist?

Many of my clients are referred by or work alongside a psychotherapist. I use an adjunctive collaborative approach in my practice. The sleep therapy I provide enhances the insomnia treatment you are receiving from your psychotherapist, incorporating effective CBT-I techniques. I ensure there is no duplication of services.
